SF Bay Boat Memorials provides a dignified ash (cremains) scattering service aboard a comfortable state of the art 36' Tiara Express Cruiser on the San Francisco Bay for as low as $550.00. This rate includes a choice of a favorite memorial local of the San Francisco Bay which includes one of the following areas:
- Cove areas near the entrance of the Golden Gate Bridge
- Area of Angel Island
- Entrance of Richardson Bay near Point Cavallo
- West side of Alcatraz
These areas are commonly viewed as appropriate locations for the commemoration of deceased loved ones. These areas are usually calm and tranquil which provide an ideal local where family and friends can release the ashes of their deceased loved one into the water and reflect upon the decedent's journey of life. A maximum of 6 passengers are permitted (sorry no exceptions as this is a U.S. Coast Guard regulation). Clergy members are welcome to participate. Family members of the decedent are welcome to bring their own cut flowers and/or favorite music. This reasonable price is for a scattering of ashes memorial which lasts a approximately 1 1/2 hours from departure to return to port.
A customized voyage entails the scattering of ashes at a specifically requested location requiring extended travel to and from a desired location not included in the standard private memorial charter. This option is available for $350.00 per hour. Customized locations may include but are not limited to the San Francisco Bay and coastal waterways of the Pacific Ocean along the counties of San Mateo, San Francisco, and Marin. Call for specific requests on locals and pricing.
We also offer an extended Bay tour at the conclusion of the scattering of ashes for an additional $350.00 per hour. This makes for a perfect day to conclude the celebration of one's life. After a scattering of ashes memorial, a Bay tour can be arranged to one of more of the locations listed below.
A one-hour extended tour may include one or more of the following:
- A waterfront cruise along the City of San Francisco (Marina District, Fisherman's Wharf, Pier 39 where sea lions can be viewed, Embarcadero, Bay Bridge)
- Alcatraz Island
- McCovey Cove at AT&T Park, and other attractive areas. McCovey Cove is one of Captain
Dave's choice spot for a cruise and place to enjoy lunch particularly during a Giant's game.
- Angel Island
- Treasure/Yerba Buena Island
Refer to link: www.sfbayboattours.com for more info on San Francisco Bay tours.
We also provide unattended ash scattering which is an affordable option at the low cost of $250.00. This allows loved ones whether local or distant the choice of delivering the cremains to our service for a scattering in a special location in the vicinity of the Golden Gate, in The San Francisco Bay. The ashes will be set free by the Captain (me) without charter passengers on board. With an unattended scattering, we provide a photo upon request as well as a certificate of the cremated remains dispersal. This certificate documents precisely where the release of cremains occurred by providing GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude data). This documentation not only memorializes where the release of cremains occurred but also provides a reference point for those who wish to re-visit the scattering site in the future. This is provided to you for absolute confirmation and peace of mind knowing your wishes have been fulfilled. In addition, we will process and file the completed disposition permit of human remains with the appropriate counties.

Family is the most important support structure when we experience a loss. We feel our family oriented captain and crew makes a difference by having a sincere concern for your family's and/or friend's needs.
Captain Dave Gallegioni has a valid US Coast Guard Merchant Marine Officer license for passenger vessels up to 50 net tons. He has a valid cremated remains disposer license issued by the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau. He is a member in good standing with NACO (National Association of Charter Boat Captains). Captain Dave is a San Francisco native who has over 35 years of boating and seamanship experience on the San Francisco Bay and coastal waterways off the Golden Gate. He enjoyed a lengthy career serving in law enforcement in Marin County. He has extensive experience working on public safety vessels involved in search and rescue missions. During his tour of duty, he was awarded two lifesaving medals on separate occasions. He places special emphasis on safety, comfort, convenience, dignity, and respect for life. He is certified as a Christian ordained Minister. He has a great passion for the sea and spends a significant amount of his personal and professional time out on the water.
The vessel is a modern 36' Tiara power cruiser "La Dolce Vita IV" which is built in the United States by a highly regarded boat manufacturer. Tiara Yachts pays special attention to comfort, seaworthiness, and safety. The specifications and craftsmanship are engineered to exceed US Coast Guard minimum safety standards by vessel manufacturers. The vessel is fully equipped with Federal and State required safety equipment and is annually inspected by the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. This 36' cruiser is comfortable and roomy which personalizes your charter for a special occasion. The cabin's amenities include a galley, couch, a marine head (bathroom), stereo/Bluetooth player, and sleeping berths. We take pride in a vessel that is meticulously clean and very well maintained. The vessel has twin Cummins diesel engines which are noted for generating low emissions and are designed to be environmentally friendly. These engines emit low exhaust levels unlike many marine diesel engines that can make a day of boating uncomfortable due to excessive exhaust fumes. With a cruising speed of 23 knots, the benefit of this power vessel allows us to mobilize from one location to another in comfort and in a timely manner unlike being on a sailboat. As a result, we are able to cover more territory and visit more focal points in considerably less time than it would take underway on a sailboat. The vessel does not give its' passengers the feeling they are on a typical charter fishing boat for such a personal event. The vessel is moored in beautiful Sausalito. Several excellent restaurants are located close by. There is available parking and restrooms at the marina. Call for directions and additional information.
Captain Dave Gallegioni and his brother Michael made this sad, difficult time lighter for all of us. Their care and compassion, along with their expertise, gave us a chance to turn this sad goodbye into a loving celebration of John's life. The ceremonial scattering of the ashes was done with utmost respect, and they were especially attentive to Betty's feelings and needs. Betty said it best when she said to me "It was a beautiful ceremony, and I am so grateful! I could tell that the Captain and his brother Michael really put their hearts into the ceremony. I'll remember it for the rest of my life."It's always very difficult to say goodbye to our loved ones, and it is so important to feel we honor their wishes with love and respect. That's why I highly recommend SF Bay Boat Memorials and Captain Dave Gallegioni to anyone who wants to say goodbye with a loving and uplifting ceremony at sea."

Captain Dave,
I just want to personally thank you on behalf of my family and I for the beautiful service you provided us on Saturday, August 23, 2014. The scattering of my father’s ashes in the SF bay was exactly what he wanted. You made the experience a very beautiful and memorable one. Thank you for your tactfulness and professionalism in handling all the details of the service. The day was absolutely gorgeous and the views were majestic. It was exactly what my father would have wanted. As Christians and believers of Jesus Christ, it is our belief that my father is now in the presence of our Lord as he was saved and had made his peace with God. I don’t know if my beloved “papa” was able to see his service from heaven (I like to think that perhaps God allowed him to see it), and if he did, I know he would have been extremely pleased and moved. Thank you for the wonderful service you provide to grieving families. We will highly recommend your services.
With much appreciation,
Sabrina H. and family
Good afternoon Captain Dave,
I want to thank you for the amazing service you provided us. My father fought in the Spanish Civil War, was a POW, spent 2 years in the French Foreign Legion, was a merchant fisherman, and retired as a school custodian. He is the bravest man I have ever known. Which brings me to Saturday. The service you provided surpassed what me and my family had hoped for in honoring our hero and his final resting place. The scattering of my father’s ashes in the SF bay was exactly what he wanted. The view was breathtaking!!! Your boat was beautiful!!! And you, you were wonderful. I thank you for your sensitivity and professionalism in handling the details as this was my sister’s and my first time experiencing the death of a parent. Thank you for working with my sister and thinking of everything. Looking out into the SF bay will be even more special to us now.
Sincerely,
Gaby A., Rancho Cordova, CA.
Dear Captain Dave,
On behalf of our family, I wish to thank you for your assistance with the scattering of the cremated remains of Beatrice R. (on 9/11/2014). We felt that you were very accommodating and compassionate and created a beautiful memorable experience . I would not hesitate recommending your company. Thank you very much!
Brian A. Saint Louis, Mo.
Dear Dave,
On behalf of myself and my family, I wanted to thank you kindly, and again, so very much for a thoughtful and sensitive voyage to place our paper (biodegradable) urn by Kirby cove. I see by your website that so many families have expressed similar sentiments and gratitude. The rite is full of so many emotions but the overriding is love, and he (Richard B.) is surely loved by us all. Thank you for giving us privacy in a small space. Your intention, purposefulness, and experience made us fell safe and in good hands. The Bay was so beautiful; it was hard to feel so sad in such glistening seas.
Our best to you. Enjoy everything today, don't wait for tomorrow!
Sincerely,
Denise F., Mill Valley, CA.

Hi Dave,
On behalf of my sister and our family, we want to thank you for the wonderful experience we had on your boat this past Saturday, May 7th (2016). Everything was perfect. I think I mentioned to you, I pray about all my decisions and when I saw you were Italian with a boat named La Dolce Vita, and you were a Christian minister, I knew it was a God wink!!!
Your boat is beautiful and we all appreciated your professionalism.
And we will refer others to your business.
May God richly bless you!

Thank you so much for your kindness and caring as we said our final good by to Kay. You made the whole experience smooth and beautiful. We couldn't have asked for a better experience ~ ok maybe not so much wind, but your expert handling of your beautiful boat made it all ok. I'm already telling our friends how wonderful it was and recommending you if the need arises.

10/7/19:
Just wanted to say thank-you for the wonderful experience we had. While we had waited some time to say our final goodbye to our family members - the setting could not have been more perfect!. You kindness, and sensitivity in approaching the experience - from the booking to the trip was more than we could have imagined. The experience was so meaningful for all of us. It is a blessing to know that someone so rich in spirit is providing this service.

Hello Captain Dave,
Thank you for the most incredible service on Saturday. Everything was perfect; your amazing vessel, in immaculate condition, your expert navigation, with pin-point accuracy, and all of the helpful assistance you provided during the outing.
We had the most amazing weather as well. We experienced something we will not forget, and were able to commemorate the life of my father, a native San Franciscan, in a way that was first-class in every respect.
Please have our gratitude for this.
I would very much appreciate you us sending the particulars of your splendid boat; make and model, etc. It was incredible when Crowley sped past us, a tribute to my father's years at sea.
Hope to cross paths again, and will definitely spread the word regarding your excellent enterprise.
All best,
Ishan
